Noble Macmillan Lazy Days Travel Backgammon set

Last updated on April 20, 2024

In the lead up to the Christmas break, at Deluxe Backgammon, we thought we would take a look at another travel backgammon set. Perfect for those people going away for the holidays. Noble Macmillan produces a range of classic leather goods including several premium backgammon sets. In today’s post, we will talk about the Lazy Days Travel Backgammon set, which is available in three colours indigo, tangerine and fuchsia. We took a look at the indigo set, which is slightly more subdued than the other colour options. The sets are available to be personalised at an additional cost.

Construction

This premium backgammon set is handcrafted from calfskin leather. All of Noble Macmillan’s leathers are sourced from British, Italian & Spanish tanneries and are all from sustainable sources. The outer leather has been dyed black, which is a more traditional colour than the other options. The stitching inside and out is immaculate, there is not a stitch out of place. The playing field is suede and has been dyed indigo. The red and cream points are calfskin leather and neatly stitched onto the playing field. Additionally, it has a generous gap down the centre of the board representing the bar. This is often missing on travel sets, which can cause confusion with misplaced checkers. The set viewed by Deluxe Backgammon rolled out nicely and laid flat without rising at the ends.

Dimensions

The roll is very light, as you would expect for a travel backgammon set. We estimated that it weighed about 500g. The set rolls neatly up into a small package about the size of a travel umbrella (28cm long x 5cm diameter). When rolled out it measures 28 x 40cm.

Accessories

The set includes a pair of acrylic dice and a doubling cube. The dark and light wooden checkers are plain and simple. As a result, they nicely complement the natural materials of the backgammon roll. All of the pieces fit neatly into the zippered compartment at the end of the board. The set can be rolled up and secured by the twin leather straps.

Conclusion

A leather backgammon set is always a pleasure to play on as it has such a tactile quality. Even the aroma of the leather is pleasurable. This premium backgammon set is no exception because it is beautifully crafted with quality, sustainable materials. It comes in the subdued indigo and the vivid tangerine and fuchsia, as a result, there is an option for all personalities. We have no hesitation in recommending this as a Deluxe Backgammon set. RRP at the time of writing is £195.
