Backgammon has been played for around five thousand years, so backgammon sets have been around for a long period of time. Some of these old backgammon sets survive and are available for purchase as antiques. Often these sets contain unoriginal pieces, such as replacement checkers or dice. Many of them will not include the doubling cube, as this wasn’t invented until the 20th century. Many of these antique backgammon sets are in beautiful condition and are perfect as decorative or practical pieces. Note that some antique backgammon sets may include dice made from ivory which may be difficult to purchase on ethical or legal grounds.
