Backgammon Venue.
A few weeks ago, a couple of members of the Deluxe Backgammon team were strolling along the Southbank looking for a venue for an after-work beverage. The sun was shining and the sky was clear. We came across The Understudy Southbank London, situated beneath the National Theatre, and wandered in. It’s an unpretentious establishment serving with a basic wooden with a series of low seats and tables and the occasional sofa. Inside it is quite small, consisting of a single room.
The evening we were there it was busy, but the service was fast and efficient. There is a series of about ten beers on tap and a board filled with local craft ales. There is also a fairly impressive wine and cocktail list. The prices are surprisingly reasonable considering the premium location. The outstanding feature of The Understudy, apart from its laidback atmosphere, is the plentiful outdoor seating and the views of the river Thames. On a sunny evening, this would be the perfect place to enjoy a pint or three.
Sunday Board Game Promotion.
At this point, you may be wondering why Deluxe Backgammon is recommending a riverside bar. There is a valid reason. We looked on their website and saw that they have a Sunday Board Game promotion with a free drink for every winner. If you love playing backgammon and you love Sunday afternoon in the pub, this has to be the perfect venue.
You can pick up a backgammon set, or any other board game when you purchase your drinks and they will give the winner of the game a free drink. A £5 deposit is required when you collect the board game. There is a maximum of one drink per table per hour. The free drink can be either a pint, a 175ml house wine, a single house spirit and mixer, or a soft drink.
Location.
The Understudy Southbank London has to be the perfect place to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon. Sitting in the sunshine by the river Thames, playing backgammon with the winner receiving a free pint. We don’t imagine the backgammon sets on offer will be of particularly high quality, but there should be no reason why you couldn’t bring along your own Deluxe Backgammon set.
The Deluxe Backgammon team will be making a visit to The Understudy on a Sunday afternoon in the not too distant future. This is a fantastic venue to enjoy a game of backgammon.
