Hector Saxe Côme – Backgammon chevron leather medium Orange

Hector Saxe has been producing up-market games in their Paris workshops since 1978. They specialise in producing luxury quality backgammon sets. The materials used include Italian calf leather, hides, precious wood and Alcantara. In this post, we will be taking a look at our first Hector Saxe Backgammon set. The Hector Saxe Côme backgammon set is from the Hector Saxe Chevron leather range. The first thing that grabs your attention is the vivid orange colour of the chevron leather.

Construction

The cabinet is constructed from wood and overlaid with chevron patterned Italian calf leather. The leather is perfectly overlaid and it is difficult to see a single seam or stitch with the naked eye. It is quality craftsmanship. The build quality is superb and the set feels weighty and solid. The striking chevron pattern is even shown on the inlaid points of orange and black on the playing field. The furnishings are stainless steel and the hinges are perfectly recessed into the board. The set includes a lock with two spare keys. There is no handle on the set, so it isn’t practical to use this as a travel set. There is a customisation option (additional cost) to have the board embossed with eight characters of text.

Accessories

The set includes 30 acrylic checkers with a mother of pearl effect. Black and red in colour, the checkers are loud, but then so is the rest of the board, so they are totally suited. Likewise, the dice are acrylic and black and orange. The doubling cube is metallic and embossed on one side with the Hector Saxe logo. Finally, the set includes two leather-bound dice cups, with the same chevron pattern.

Dimensions

It is a medium-sized set. When closed it is 5.5cm x 37cm x 25cm. When open 2.75cm x 37cm x 50cm (Height x Width x Depth). There is no weight listed on the website, but we held it in-store and estimate it weighs in at about 2.5kg.

Conclusion

The Hector Saxe Côme backgammon set is striking, but it also has a fabulous build quality. The materials are obviously of the finest quality and the workmanship is second to none. We can’t recall seeing any visible seams on the leather when we viewed the set in store. Additionally, we have been over the images several times and we still cannot see a seam in the leather. This is a stunning set and the perfect addition to any Deluxe Backgammon set collection. RRP £685 at the time of writing.
