Regency Chess Solid Wooden Deluxe Backgammon Dice Cups.

Last updated on November 26, 2023

These handcrafted wooden dice cups by Regency Chess are made from babul wood, which is a type of acacia. Babul wood is not particularly noted for its use in woodcraft, however, these are nicely presented. The life of a dice cup is pretty sheltered and not too punishing so we can’t see any reason why these wouldn’t have a long life.

Construction

They have a classic lozenge-shaped design. Each cup measures 7.2cm x 7.7cm x 4.4cm (H x W x D). If you have a cassette or attaché style backgammon set it is crucial to ensure that the depth is compatible otherwise the set will fail to close. Measure the depth carefully before purchasing. The cups have been lined with a deep red flocking for noise reduction. There are no ridges or trips to force the dice to roll, but this shouldn’t be a problem for social play. Finally, the cups have been hand polished to provide an attractive finish. The unique grain of the wood is clearly visible on the outside of the cups. They weigh approximately 100g each and feel comfortable in the hand.

Superb quality and constructed from hardwood these solid wooden dice cups would make a fine addition to a wooden Deluxe Backgammon set. They would perfectly match a nice set of wooden dice.

Hi Robert, the felt lining will reduce the noise of the dice when they are rattled in the cup. I agree, these dice cups would be a welcome addition to a good quality wooden backgammon set. Thanks for taking the time to comment, Jason
